Rent in Forest City getting crazy

Hey everyone, I'm retired and Average temperature is around 74--F, so it's warm year-round. Rent is about $1,706/month for a decent place. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Has anyone dealt with this? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 48, moved here 8 years ago from LA. I've lived in Uptown and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Limited shopping options
3. The food scene situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for retirees. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $90K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Boston about 5 years ago. The main reasons were weather and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited public transit options

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
