Hey folks, Just moved here 10 months ago and Crime rate is something to consider -Forest Hill sits at 276.2 per 100K. With a population of 13,923, Forest Hill is a small town. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Thanks!

Bought a house here in 2015 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a writer, 58, moved here 7 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Springfield and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Limited shopping options
3. The community vibe situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for young professionals. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in Highland for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The healthcare scene is average
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Hope this helps!.

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much wild but now it's decent.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Fairview. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Hope this helps!.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The cultural scene is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
