Moving to Forest Hills -what should I know?

The median home value here is around $182,200, which is actually reasonable. Median household income is $86,802, which feels pretty solid for the area. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Any help is appreciated. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Sunset for 5 years. Moved from Pittsburgh for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
legal is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Bugs and humidity in summer. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 7/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 1 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from LA about 7 years ago. The main reasons were family and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is underrated.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I'm a lawyer and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. The community is better than expected and there's always something going on.

I've lived in North for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Four distinct seasons
- The dating scene scene is decent

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Pine Hills. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Korean.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
