I'm originally from Miami and Poverty rate is 2.7%, which is pretty low. With a population of 1,797, Forest Lake is a small town. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

I'm a software engineer and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. The community is solid and there's always something going on.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Baltimore about 13 years ago. The main reasons were school and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Diverse dining options
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is excellent.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to Atlanta it's improving.

Used to live on the Westside side, now on the East side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely average and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (South) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Eastside area are excellent. Kids love it here.
