Thinking about relocating to Forest Park from Miami

Anyone else feel this way? I grew up here but left for a while. Median household income is $67,201, which feels about average for the area. Homes are going for about $163,200 on average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Am I wrong here? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I work in education here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is solid. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 29, moved here 14 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in North and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The dating scene situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for couples. improving vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $40K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Good luck with whatever you decide..
