Forestdale is underrated, change my mind

OK so I'm a remote worker and You can expect to pay around $1,790 for rent here. Homes are going for about $462,500 on average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Worth the trade-offs?

Moved here from Raleigh about 9 years ago. it was the best decision I ever made. Still getting used to walkability but Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Downtown. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in consulting. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Nashville about 6 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 57, moved here 11 years ago from LA. I've lived in Meadowbrook and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Affordable housing options
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The public transit situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for retirees. average vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $80K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

2. Limited entertainment options
3. The weather situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for retirees. tough vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $50K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
