So, Been living here since 2013. Rent is about $3,212/month for a decent place. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Should I be concerned? The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Used to live on the Springfield side, now on the Cedar Grove side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Charlotte about 13 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Hope this helps!.

I've lived in North for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Four distinct seasons
- The job market scene is decent
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

The food scene here is better than expected. Tons of great Asian places. it's improved dramatically in recent years.
