Why I chose Fort Belvoir over bigger cities

I relocated for work and Rent is about $3,212/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 59--F, so the weather is moderate. It's a a small town city with about 8,107 people. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Portland about 15 years ago. The main reasons were work and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is improving.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
