Job hunting in Fort Collins — tips?

Curious what people think. Been living here since 2005. You can expect to pay around $1,661 for rent here. Rent is about $1,661/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 5.6%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 3.6%, which is pretty low. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. Any advice would be great. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 47, moved here 8 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Westside and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The cost of living situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for retirees. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
