Been meaning to ask this. Crime rate is something to consider — Fort Collins sits at 217.1 per 100K. Median household income is $83,598, which feels pretty solid for the area. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Has anyone dealt with this? Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to San Diego it's solid.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from San Francisco about 7 years ago. The main reasons were work and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

We moved here with our family and I genuinely enjoy living here. Schools in West area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Lakewood. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in marketing. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much established but now it's better than expected.
