Hey everyone, We're a young couple and Median household income is $61,769, which feels about average for the area. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Would love some local perspective. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Lakewood. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in tech. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 5 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
