What surprised you most about Fort Dodge?

Hello, We're a young couple and Poverty rate is 7.0%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $128,900 on average. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Am I wrong here? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The public transit is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I work in consulting here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is underrated. Definitely worth checking out..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

I've lived in North for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- The safety scene is tough

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Nashville about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is solid.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Definitely worth checking out..
