Is Fort Drum good for remote workers?

OK so My family moved here when I was a kid. With a population of 16,124, Fort Drum is a small town. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Anyone in a similar situation? Thanks in advance! The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Used to live on the Meadowbrook side, now on the Downtown side. Completely different vibe. it's not perfect but it works for me.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Fairview area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is weather. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Meadowbrook for 10 years. Moved from LA for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Road conditions need improvement. And safety can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 6/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.
