Remote worker thinking about Fort Lauderdale

Been meaning to ask this. Poverty rate is 11.2%, which is around average. The median home value here is around $455,600, which is pretty steep. Household incomes average around $79,935 in Fort Lauderdale. You can expect to pay around $1,776 for rent here. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Charlotte about 7 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited public transit options

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is excellent.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Midtown. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in education. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Hope this helps!.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Austin about 12 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is solid.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Definitely worth checking out..
