Fort Madison quality of life -am I missing something?

Longtime lurker here, Been living here since 2023. Crime rate is something to consider -Fort Madison sits at 664.0 per 100K. The median home value here is around $95,900, which is actually reasonable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Let me know your thoughts. Any help is appreciated.

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Feel free to reach out with questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I work in legal here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is underrated. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Westside for 15 years. Moved from Denver for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
construction is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is improving - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Rising rent and home prices. And job market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 5/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.
