Random thought, Born and raised here. The median home value here is around $141,500, which is actually reasonable. Homes are going for about $141,500 on average. The unemployment rate is 3.0%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $35,131 in Fort Meade. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Would love some local perspective. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

I've lived in Fairview for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Active local events and festivals
- Affordable housing options
- The housing market scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Hope this helps!.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 7 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are reasonable, gas is underrated.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Midtown for 7 years. Moved from LA for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Limited entertainment options. And healthcare can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 6/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in West. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Came here for family and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The public transit is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Four distinct seasons
- The school system scene is average
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'm a electrician and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is average and there's always something going on.
