Is Fort Meade still affordable?

First post here. I relocated for work and With a population of 10,477, Fort Meade is a small town. Household incomes average around $102,886 in Fort Meade. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Diverse community
- Walkable downtown
- Good internet infrastructure
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Cold winters
- Limited nightlife
- High property taxes
What are your go-to spots? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 52, moved here 9 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in East and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Urban sprawl is real
3. The public transit situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for remote workers. average vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $90K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Maple Ridge. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in legal. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events and festivals
- The healthcare scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Rising rent and home prices

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
