What to expect moving to Fort Mill?

Been meaning to ask this. Household incomes average around $127,537 in Fort Mill. It's a a smaller city city with about 28,281 people. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What do you all think?

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor recreation is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The food scene scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Maple Ridge for 11 years. Moved from Seattle for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Far from beaches/mountains. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 8/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in Pine Hills area are decent. Kids love it here.

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 31, moved here 8 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Highland and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Close to major attractions
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The traffic situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for families. decent vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
