You can expect to pay around $1,435 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 3.2%, which is pretty low. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Anyone in a similar situation?

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in The Heights. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in construction. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Thai.

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The cultural scene is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value public transit, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely improving and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Uptown) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I work in engineering here and it's not perfect but it works for me. The job market for my field is better than expected. Hope this helps!.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in West for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- The job market scene is tough
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
