We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in The Heights area are underrated. Kids love it here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 50, moved here 3 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in North and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The walkability situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for singles. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a writer, 27, moved here 14 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in Lakewood and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The cultural scene situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for retirees. improving vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in Uptown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons
- The safety scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Eastside) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Tampa about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely excellent and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Westside) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Portland it's decent.
