Not sure if this has been asked before, but You can expect to pay around $893 for rent here. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What neighborhoods would you suggest?

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 13 years ago. The main reasons were family and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is underrated.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Meadowbrook. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in finance. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely better than expected and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if pet-friendliness matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Bought a house here in 2021 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

I've lived in South for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
- The cultural scene scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Summers can be brutally hot
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Happy to answer more specific questions..
