First post here. I've been here for 8 years and The unemployment rate is 0.8%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $1,175 for rent here. Poverty rate is 18.4%, which is higher than I expected. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Am I wrong here? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Tampa about 13 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is tough.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Greenfield for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
- The public transit scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Uptown. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in government. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Springfield for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Active local events and festivals
- The weather scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Hope this helps!.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Boston it's excellent.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Worth doing your research before committing.
