Moving to Fort Salonga with kids -good idea?

Longtime lurker here, Median household income is $182,165, which feels pretty solid for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -Fort Salonga sits at 22.0 per 100K. Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. You can expect to pay around $3,330 for rent here. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely decent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Midtown) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
