Couple moving to Fort Scott from out of state

Hey, Median household income is $60,799, which feels about average for the area. What would you do?

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 14 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Affordable housing options
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Highland. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in construction. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
