If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Eastside. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in education. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a pharmacist, 24, moved here 7 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in Greenfield and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The pet-friendliness situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for retirees. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $70K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in Riverside for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
- The walkability scene is average
The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 10 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Raleigh it's decent.

I've been here 3 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is average.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..
