Hey, I relocated for work and Household incomes average around $52,692 in Fort Smith. With a population of 89,496, Fort Smith is a smaller city. Rent is about $852/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $168,100 on average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. Is this normal for Fort Smith? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Came here for family and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The public transit is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've lived in Highland for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
- The traffic scene is underrated
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Good luck with whatever you decide..

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Nashville about 9 years ago. The main reasons were family and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is decent.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Riverside. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in government. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like seafood.
