Day-to-day life in Fort Smith, AR

Alright, I've been here for 13 years and Poverty rate is 13.2%, which is around average. With a population of 89,496, Fort Smith is a smaller city. Household incomes average around $52,692 in Fort Smith. Median household income is $52,692, which feels on the lower side for the area. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Am I overthinking this? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The food scene is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 5 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Midtown. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in retail. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Thai.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
