Fort Smith in the winter -how bad?

First post here. My family moved here when I was a kid. You can expect to pay around $852 for rent here. Crime rate is something to consider -Fort Smith sits at 980.2 per 100K. Average temperature is around 63--F, so the weather is moderate. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Cheers. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely improving and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Uptown) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in North for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- The safety scene is average

The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..
