Dog-friendly places in Fort Stockton?

Curious what people think. My partner and I are The median home value here is around $176,600, which is actually reasonable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Does this match your experience? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 14 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 36, moved here 8 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in Downtown and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good airport with direct flights
2. Strong sense of community
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Limited shopping options
3. The school system situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for young professionals. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $80K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely solid and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Limited entertainment options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The community vibe is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Raleigh about 7 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is decent.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I work in healthcare here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is improving. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.
