Freelancing from Fort Wayne — experience?

Hey folks, With a population of 266K, Fort Wayne is a mid-size city. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Am I wrong here? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Denver about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is decent.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Nashville about 5 years ago. The main reasons were school and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is challenging.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely underrated and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Eastside) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.
