Hey, I've been here for 16 years and Crime rate is something to consider — Fort Wayne sits at 361.6 per 100K. It's a a mid-size city city with about 266K people. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. What do you all think? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Oak Park. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in finance. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like seafood.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Oak Park. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Hope this helps!.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a physical therapist, 36, moved here 12 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Maple Ridge and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Active local events and festivals
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The healthcare situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for couples. decent vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Internet is challenging in most areas.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 7 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
- The weather scene is tough
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
