Crime rate is something to consider -Fortville sits at 21.0 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $1,094 for rent here. With a population of 5,092, Fortville is a small town. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Has anyone dealt with this? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is pretty good in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely solid and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Eastside) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely excellent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 11 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
