The unemployment rate is 3.9%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 65--F, so the weather is moderate. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Is this normal for Fountain Valley? Cheers. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Atlanta about 4 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are growing, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in East for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The pet-friendliness scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Definitely worth checking out..
