First time home buyer in Four Corners

Random thought, I grew up here but left for a while. With a population of 60,443, Four Corners is a smaller city. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Let me know your thoughts. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The cost of living is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 37, moved here 5 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Lakewood and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The outdoor recreation situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for singles. improving vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $80K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely underrated and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (East) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Chicago it's tough.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Sunset. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in engineering. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Bought a house here in 2023 and it's been a really good experience overall. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Used to live on the Maple Ridge side, now on the Midtown side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is community vibe. Other than that, No regrets on my end..
