Job hunting in Four Corners -tips?

Alright, I'm single, late 30s, and Poverty rate is 6.8%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 3.4%, which is pretty low. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 6 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is underrated in most areas.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 52, moved here 3 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Downtown and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Strong sense of community
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Limited shopping options
3. The nightlife situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for singles. tough vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $80K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2024 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

I've lived in Uptown for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- The job market scene is decent

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Uptown for 13 years. Moved from Phoenix for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 8/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Riverside. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in finance. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely average and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Sunset) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, it's been a really good experience overall. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much wild but now it's challenging.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Baltimore about 7 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are growing, gas is excellent.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. No regrets on my end..

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.
