Rent vs buy in Four Corners -what makes sense?
So, I grew up here but left for a while. Homes are going for about $312,300 on average. Poverty rate is 6.8%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 74--F, so it's warm year-round. Crime rate is something to consider -Four Corners sits at 131.6 per 100K. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.
Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Easy commute
- Walkable downtown
Cons:
- Sprawl everywhere
- Not very walkable
- Mosquitoes and humidity
Would love some local perspective. Appreciate any input. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services.
