Been meaning to ask this. I'm a 41-year-old writer and Median household income is $69,232, which feels about average for the area. It's a a small town city with about 16,168 people. Poverty rate is 7.5%, which is pretty low. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Am I wrong here? Cheers. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in South area are tough. Kids love it here.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Charlotte it's better than expected.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Pine Hills. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in legal. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Korean.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 10 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
