Hey everyone, Rent is about $935/month for a decent place. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What are your go-to spots?

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Oak Park. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in construction. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. job market used to be much stable but now it's underrated.

I've lived in Old Town for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The cost of living scene is improving
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. No regrets on my end..
