Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from Nashville about 3 years ago. The main reasons were school and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are reasonable, gas is challenging.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
