Hi all, Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. Median household income is $77,305, which feels about average for the area. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Worth the trade-offs? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a marketing manager, 34, moved here 12 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Maple Ridge and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Great outdoor activities nearby
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The cultural scene situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for couples. solid vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The housing market situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for singles. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $50K-$90K here.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 6 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is underrated.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. No regrets on my end..

Bought a house here in 2020 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Moved here from Boston about 2 years ago. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Still getting used to cost of living but Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in West. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in government. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to San Diego it's challenging.

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. weather used to be much affordable but now it's hit or miss.
