Not sure if this has been asked before, but Been living here since 2008. With a population of 2,610, Franklin is a small town. Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. Crime rate is something to consider -Franklin sits at 61.2 per 100K. The median home value here is around $696,700, which is pretty steep. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Does this match your experience? Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. the quality of life is solid. Internet is tough in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Sunset) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a marketing manager, 51, moved here 10 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Eastside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Great outdoor activities nearby
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The cost of living situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for families. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Eastside: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in Eastside for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Close to major attractions
- The housing market scene is decent
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Rising rent and home prices
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 8 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Tampa it's pretty good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from San Diego about 2 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good healthcare facilities
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Happy to answer more specific questions..
