Hey, Born and raised here. Crime rate is something to consider -Frederick sits at 405.3 per 100K. Poverty rate is 7.3%, which is pretty low. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Has anyone dealt with this? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

I've lived in West for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
- The housing market scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Winters are long and cold
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely excellent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Springfield) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
