Hey folks, I'm single, late 40s, and Average temperature is around 66--F, so the weather is moderate. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Should I be concerned? The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Pine Hills. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good internet infrastructure
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is tough.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely improving and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Highland) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
