Median household income is $85,368, which feels pretty solid for the area. Poverty rate is 10.3%, which is around average. Homes are going for about $461,500 on average. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Am I overthinking this? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Meadowbrook area are solid. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Pine Hills. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Boston about 3 years ago. The main reasons were work and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is excellent.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Hope this helps!.
