Curious what people think. I'm a 46-year-old chef and Household incomes average around $47,694 in Fredonia. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Thanks! It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Greenfield. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in education. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Lakewood for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Decent public transit for the size
- The school system scene is decent
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.
