We're a young couple and Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. It's a a smaller city city with about 44,102 people. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. TIA!

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 1 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Used to live on the West side, now on the Downtown side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The pet-friendliness scene is solid
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Winters are long and cold
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely excellent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Midtown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 12 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Winters are long and cold
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is underrated.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
