So, I'm a college student here and Poverty rate is 4.0%, which is pretty low. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Is this normal for Freeport?

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Baltimore about 6 years ago. The main reasons were weather and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Limited entertainment options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are developing, gas is solid.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from San Francisco about 10 years ago. The main reasons were work and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is challenging.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 8 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 44, moved here 15 years ago from New York. I've lived in Uptown and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The healthcare situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for remote workers. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $40K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. traffic used to be much wild but now it's surprisingly good.
