Anyone else feel this way? Born and raised here. Rent is about $1,984/month for a decent place. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Am I wrong here? Cheers. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Moved here from Nashville about 5 years ago. I have mixed feelings honestly. Still getting used to cultural scene but Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much reasonable but now it's excellent.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely excellent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Fairview) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Dallas about 9 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are stable, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 9 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
