Pros and cons of Freeport after 2 years

Household incomes average around $118,755 in Freeport. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Worth the trade-offs? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 55, moved here 13 years ago from Miami. I've lived in Oak Park and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Urban sprawl is real
3. The community vibe situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for families. tough vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $60K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in The Heights. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want job market, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 8 years ago. The main reasons were family and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Close to major attractions
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Nightlife is limited

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are reasonable, gas is excellent.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Denver about 5 years ago. The main reasons were work and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is excellent.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Uptown. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'm a nurse who relocated here from LA about 8 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Winters are long and cold

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are reasonable, gas is underrated.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Happy to answer more specific questions..

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much competitive but now it's hit or miss.
