Remote worker thinking about Fremont

Random thought, Military spouse here. The median home value here is around $1,289,400, which is pretty steep. You can expect to pay around $2,905 for rent here. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Has anyone dealt with this? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from New York about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Affordable housing options
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is improving.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. No regrets on my end..

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.
